Flood by Little Simz, Obongjayar, and Moonchild Sanelly
I love this first single from Little Simz' upcoming Lotus.
Uno II by Viagra Boys
A new Viagra Boys track, written from the perspective of a dog struggling to understand why the vet has taken their teeth. It has flute. Of course I love it.
Is Bogdan my enemy? Does he want the best for me? What's he doing with my teeth? Is he taking them to Australia?
I remember from my childhood my Dad buying some sort of cleaning tool for his CD player. It came with a collection of high-fidelity music, I suppose as a way to demonstrate the efficacy of the cleaner. I don't remember what that music sounded like, but I have to imagine it was something like this Sleigh Bells track.
It's a bit like turning your sensory inputs up to eleven. Definitely a fun listen.
It’s Amazing to Be Young by Fontaines D.C.
A bit heart-wrenching and a bit euphoric at the same time, probably in the exact ways you'd expect. A lovely song inspired by becoming a father that's tinged with a sadness we all feel sometimes (right? right??).
Shake Hands With Beef by Primus
Mr. Krinkle by Primus
Professor Nutbutter’s House of Treats by Primus
Jerry Was a Race Car Driver by Primus
I'd never listened to Primus before. I've heard about Primus. I have now listened to Primus.
I do not have anything else to add on the matter at this time.
VIAGRA BOYS ARE BACK with a new record announcement and a new single that's catchy as fuck and slightlyunhingedin the best possible way. If you are made of meat, please consider giving it a listen immediately.
They watch TV, they watch TV about a man named Chandler Bing who died in a freak hot tubbing accident.
I'm subscribed to your mom's OnlyFans. I spend five bucks a month to get pictures of her flappy giblets, and I spend another ten dollars a month to chat with her on the AI chat program. It feels great.
I'd never heard of the band Bob Hund, the song The Freaks, nor Freddie Wadling—who originally performed it with band Cortex in 1983. This week I was fortunate to accidentally become aware of all these things, when I came across a cover of the track by Bob Hund with Sebastian Murphy—of Viagra Boys—for Swedish television.
What a lovely performance this is. I can't help but draw parallels with Viagra Boys' Creatures from their 2021 record Welfare Jazz.
A cool and weird new track from Squid. A bit reminiscent of Django Django's wicked 2023 track Black Cadillac with a steelpan kinda sound at times that reminds me of I Think I Lost My Headache by Queens of the Stone Age.
Thinking's not a cardinal sin. But there's a danger that lingers with every powering synapse.
March on for Pax Ramona by Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
FKA twigs' new record Eusexua has been a really enjoyable listen. It's vibrant and colourful with moments that feel like they come simultaneously from the years 2002 and 2032.
I'm a bit of a latecomer to TOOL, being only a few months old when 1993's Undertow was released. 26 years later, with the release of Fear Inoculum, I finally caught up with them.
This week, I've had Undertow and Ænema on rotation. Hooker With a Penis and Prison Sex have scurried into my brain.
Well now, I've got some advice for you, little buddy. Before you point your finger, you should know that I'm the man.
Returning to this decade, I've been listening again to Goat Girl's 2021 record On All Fours. Synthy, indie, catchy, sad. It's good. I especially like the record's closing track, A-Men.
I've been revisiting Action Bronson's 2018 record White Bronco. Action's music feels so effortlessly smooth. Beautiful instrumentation meets a voice brimming with personality. The bass in Ring Ring is a highlight. There are horses neighing—I'm not sure why—but just like the dolphins in Only For Dolphins, it works.
You either got it or you don't, there's nothin' to it.
I'm not sure this lyric accurately represents some of the more meaningful aspects of Who Let The Dogs Out (which covers sexism, gentrification, nepotism, police brutality, workplace inequity, and more with irreverence and fury), but fuck it, I love it.
Why can't I just fit in? Why cant I just sit still?
The breakdown at 2:00 in Special Different is a poignant moment in an otherwise blistering album. It's a slightly off-kilter section that feels like it could have come from the nineties.
I started writing this post while I was still putting the site together, so its publication is a little delayed.
It's been a good week for new music. So good that I finally decided to buy a domain name for fridayclub (actually, I bought two domain names) and make the blog happen. So, here it is: the worst website I've ever created.
I loved Goat Girl's record Below the Waste, released earlier this year. Synthy, dark, hypnotic. gossip was put together during the recording of that record and feels like a moody, electronic extension of it.
I remember the exact train journey I was on when I first listened to the fan collection of A Weekend in the City b-sides known as Another Weekend in the City. Years later, much of that music is still rattling around my brain making me feel things.
